Need a reason to get fit? Looking to play ultimate frisbee? Come join the SFU Clam men's or women's Frisbee university club teams! We have a friendly but driven team atmosphere with a focus on sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive men's and women's teams register for 2 - 4 tournaments during the Spring semester and 2-4 tournaments during the fall semester. Occasionally we compete in co-ed tournaments, so there will be plenty of playing time throughout the season. Students and alumni of SFU, and students from other colleges or universities (particularly those without their own Ultimate teams) are welcome to join the team. Newcomers to the sport are always welcome! Burnaby Campus practices: Regular practices are Monday & Wednesday 7:30 - 10:00 pm on the Terry Fox turf field (in front of the gym) For more info email ultimate@sfu.ca or check out our group on Facebook (SFU Clam Ultimate Frisbee). Please note: to officially participate in the Club you need to get your SFU Rec gym shoe tag and pay $5 at the Recreation office to join the SFU Ultimate Club. Just tell them that you want to join the Ultimate Club for the semester. A message for those interested in volunteering overseas: WANT TO COACH ULTIMATE FRISBEE IN INDIA? Ahmedabad Ultimate (AU) is a local initiative by Indicorps aimed at transforming communities through sport using Ultimate Frisbee’s philosophy of ‘spirit of the game’. AU is looking for experienced coaches with a solid Ultimate Frisbee background and a desire to enable change. Primarily, volunteers are needed to assist in the implementation of an intense summer training camp for youth in Ahmedabad, India taking place during the month of May, 2010 . We also welcome any longer term assistance, donations and other support. Ways to get involved: Short-Term (1 week min): Be a coach at the summer camp. Long-Term (1 month min): At any time of the year, help at practices, tournaments and other project related tasks. The staff and volunteers at AU will help organize your stay and will also guide your transition into Indian life (i.e. cultural do’s and don’ts, getting around the city, where to eat, etc.). AU is also well connected to other NGOs creating opportunity for you to see other projects at work and open further volunteering channels. Volunteering with Ahmedabad Ultimate allows you to be more than just a tourist; you become part of a community and take part in meaningful, life-changing work. If you or anyone involved with ulti in your league has questions, they can e-mail Ahmedabad ultimate at ultimate@indicorps.org or visit ultimate.indicorps.org |
